Item 8.01 Other Events

     As previously reported on the Current Report on Form 8-K filed by Newtek Business Services, Inc. (the “Company”) on November 17, 2011, the Company was authorized to buy back up to 1,000,000 of its common shares on the open market. On January 3, 2012, the Company announced that during December 2011 the Company purchased a total of 13,422 of its common shares under the plan at an average price per share of $1.18.
