“Fred the Head” by T. Agvanian has been released worldwide. This unique, 206-page book takes an experimental, nonlinear approach to storytelling, blending memoir and short fiction into a collection of tales that revolve around Fred the Head. These disparate yet connected stories span decades and multiple characters, each with an experience that ties them to Fred - and perhaps one another.
Four distinct characters, Maral, Sanderston, Harry, and Schiel, each take part in astonishing events that lead to a direct (or indirect) intersection with Fred that alters the trajectory of their lives. From mundane moments to major, even shocking discoveries, the details of Fred’s life come to light through the eyes of others, raising poignant questions about the nature of memory and the role it plays in understanding the self.
These quirky stories blur the lines between memoir and fiction, and the author leaves it to the reader to determine what’s real, what’s imagined, and what lies in the gray area between. Through the interconnected events, Agvanian tugs at the unseen threads that link people across time and space, exploring the magic of coincidence and interpretation with each eclectic moment.
With elements of tragedy and comedy intertwined with vivid observation, the author points readers down an unpredictable path that circles upon itself, uncovering new details about Fred and the people in his orbit as the stories progress.
A thought-provoking work that invites deeper and deeper questions as it unfolds, this collection of stories and memories seeks to understand the very nature of human connection and the power of unique, internal experience.
Fred the Head (ISBN: 9781965340356) can be purchased through retailers worldwide, including Barnes & Noble and Amazon. The paperback retails for $14.99. Review copies and interviews are available upon request.
From the back cover:
Fred the Head weaves a collage of stories, some fictional, others disguised memories, together in search of mutual cohesion. The stories examine, to differing degrees, the lives of those who are obliquely connected to the title character of the piece, who holds them together like orbiting planets.
The reader might consider where lost memories go, whether they can ever be found, and how they might be connected to all of us. Is this voodoo, metaphysics, fancy, or madness? Or, perhaps, an acknowledgement that we are all bound by invisible threads which only sometimes make themselves visible to us and the participants of these stories.
Fred the Head indirectly examines the nature of fiction, the experiences that inform that fiction, and the power of those experiences to hold us and follow us over time.
About the author:
T. Agvanian has interests which include the history of WWII especially its effect on Russia and other former Soviet Republics. Her first novel, The Uncommon Cure, deals with the conflicts arising out of differences between those displaced by war into the cultures of the west. Fred the Head explores the nature of fiction as it obliquely connects characters from different worlds and walks of life by invisible threads.
She currently lives in Massachusetts with her family. Fred the Head is her second novel.
