Project Spotlight: Roadway PR Hwy-111 Stabilization
In collaboration with Constructora Hartmann, GeoStabilization addressed critical slope failure and stabilization concerns along Puerto Rico Highway 111, a key transportation route in Utuado. The project involved widening and stabilizing 148 feet of roadway to ensure safe passage for motorists. In addition to repairing the slope failure, the team stabilized an adjacent wall that posed hazards due to its proximity to the affected area. The project involved installing soil nails, micropiles, new inboard and outboard concrete swales to control stormwater, and a guiderail to protect the traveling public. Construction activities were carefully coordinated to minimize traffic disruptions, ensuring at least one lane remained open throughout the repair process. Rigorous testing protocols were implemented to ensure the structural integrity of the stabilization elements, meeting all design standards. Despite an expanded scope and unforeseen challenges, the project was completed on time and within budget.
