Marquis Who’s Who Honors Robert Fellmeth for Expertise in Children’s Advocacy

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESSWIRE / December 17, 2024 / Marquis Who's Who honors Robert Fellmeth for expertise in the field of children's advocacy. Professor Fellmeth is the director and founder of the Children's Advocacy Institute (CAI), Consumer Protection Policy Center (CPPC) and Energy Policy Initiatives Center (EPIC). Professor Fellmeth has dedicated his life to advocacy and influencing public policy.

About Professor Fellmeth

Professor Fellmeth has dedicated his life to advocating for children's rights. In 1970, he earned a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. After working at the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency of the United States State Department, he became a professor of law in 1977 at the University of San Diego School of Law. As founder and director of the Centers for Public Interest Law (CPIL) at the university, he has held the endowed Price Chair in Public Interest Law for over four decades.

Professor Fellmeth is proud of the impact his teaching has had on his students. He has taught courses on child advocacy, including one titled "Child Rights and Remedies." His teaching has influenced about 400 of his former students to pursue careers in the field and they have participated in impactful bills related to child welfare.

"I want people to replicate my interest in the general future, the fate of children. I want people to be more concerned about that," Professor Fellmeth says. "I have lots of allies and supporters. A lot of people are doing what I'm doing, but I wish that there were more of us."

An Accomplished Author

As an author, Professor Fellmeth wrote the textbook "Child Rights & Remedies," which is now used in 30 law schools.

Not one to shy away from controversial subjects, Professor Fellmeth authored the article, "The Most Harmful Human Flaw Is Our Pack Mentality," which calls out the dangers of group allegiance and its adverse effect on global society. He also wrote an article for The Fulcrum titled "Eight Needed Steps to Save Democracy and Our Future."

Another passion of Professor Fellmeth is consumer protection. He co-authored a consumer protection textbook, "Regulatory Law & the Public Interest," with Marcus Friedman, published by Clarity Press in 2024.

Advocating for Children

In the late 1980s, Professor Fellmeth founded the Children's Advocacy Institute, an academic, research and advocacy association. The institute works on behalf of children through public education, litigation and advocating for legislative changes.

Professor Fellmeth and his institute are working on behalf of children who age out of foster care regarding their Social Security benefits. These children are often left without resources and fall through the cracks of society into drug abuse, early death, jail and other dire situations that adversely affect their future. Though 40,000 foster children are eligible for Social Security benefits, it's often embezzled. Lawsuits have been filed in California to address the issue and the Children's Advocacy Institute has lobbied for legislative changes in six other states.

A Lasting Legacy

Currently, Professor Fellmeth is excited about the implementation of the Model State Statutes for Children program.

"One of the most important websites we're creating is a website that analyzes state laws in the 50 states that affect children the most. It tries to find the best state law in the areas of child interest in safety, health, or education. We cover those areas, find the best state statute we can find and then publish a website with the best state statute on it so other states can copy it," Professor Fellmeth explains.

Professor Fellmeth's legacy continues through his advocacy and initiatives as well as the former students who now join his mission to fight for child rights, consumer protection and energy policies that will benefit everyone.
