ST. PETERSBURG, FL / ACCESSWIRE / December 19, 2024 / Demand for high-end properties continues to rise, even amidst inflation and limited luxury inventory. Discerning buyers are willing to pay top dollar for a luxury lifestyle and an address that reflects their status.
A perfect example is the sale of a Manhattan penthouse in January 2024. The ultra-luxurious duplex at Central Park Tower, originally listed at $175 million in March 2023, sold for $149.5 million after a price adjustment in September. Despite this reduction, it remains a prime investment. Between 1999 and the first quarter of 2024, the price per square foot of Manhattan luxury apartments surged from $480 to $1,939, underscoring 25 years of robust growth.
But beyond numbers, the allure of luxury properties-particularly penthouses-is about livability. Stepping into a well-designed space, whether it's your home or a commercial property, should reflect your unique taste and style. Thoughtfully curated interiors can make all the difference when it comes to selling, as a sophisticated design often seals the deal for discerning buyers in cities like Manhattan or Miami.
The Man Behind the Design
Tampa Bay-based Rob Bowen, Principal at Rob Bowen Design Group, has made a career of creating exceptional, elegant spaces that not only elevate a property's financial value and break sales records, but also enhance the lifestyle of its owners.
A Natural Progression
Bowen's path to interior design was serendipitous. Though always passionate about design, he initially pursued a business degree at Florida State University, double majoring in business with a focus on communications. It was while working in real estate development in St. Petersburg/Tampa, that his design career took an unexpected turn.
"I hosted one of my monthly gatherings for a charity I was involved with, and a local magazine editor was intrigued by the space I had designed for my home," Bowen recalls. This led to a nine-page feature showcasing his modern ranch-style home built atop a low-rise building in downtown St. Pete.
The recognition was immediate. Shortly after the feature, Bowen received a call from a couple building a home nearby. They asked him to design their space, though Bowen quickly told them he wasn't a designer. "Their response was, ‘We don't care.'" Bowen accepted the challenge, designing a 7,000-square-foot home using only natural, chemical-free materials to accommodate the wife's recovery from an environmentally-triggered illness. "It was one of the most challenging projects I've ever done-even after 15 years in the business," Bowen laughs. "And I was paid $5,000."
That project ignited a passion for design that has since made the Rob Bowen Design a leader in crafting some of Tampa's most sought-after residential, commercial, and hospitality properties, including almost every penthouse in downtown St. Petersburg.
An Integrated Approach
Though Bowen is the visionary behind the firm's success, he attributes it to the collaboration of a talented team, including designers, architects, project managers, and procurement experts.
"High-net-worth clients often have a vision of their living space, and it's up to our team to bring that vision to life. We work within the limitations of materials and technology while balancing aesthetics and livability," Bowen explains.
At its core, interior design is about creating an environment. "Furniture is maybe five percent of what I do. It's about how a space feels when you walk in. Does the mirror reflect the ocean? Is it moody and serene, a refuge from the outside world? How does the marble floor feel-barefoot, in heels, or with a dog running around? Does the space have a particular scent? Homeowners should feel like they're stepping into another world when they walk through the door." Ultimately, it is about giving the client the very best version of what they want.
The success of Rob Bowen Design Group stems from a holistic approach, blending form and function to create spaces that inspire. "Interior design is about both the heart and the mind," Bowen says. "While design can be learned, I believe true talent is in the blood. Ever since I can remember, I've been passionate about how interiors reflect who we are."
Success for Bowen also comes from strong partnerships. "When we're brought onto a project, we interview general contractors and collaborate with landscape architects, AV experts, lighting engineers, and more, right from the start. We're like the conductor of an orchestra, making sure every element works in harmony to create a space that reflects the client's unique vision."
