Karen Lerner Elected to the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation

Kirby McInerney LLP is pleased to announce that Karen Lerner, Partner, has been elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation (ABF). Established in 1955, The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation is a global honorary society comprised of attorneys, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars and limited to one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. Members are nominated by their peers and selected by the ABF Board.

The global honorary society recognizes attorneys, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the highest principles of the legal profession and to the welfare of their communities. ABF Fellows hail from nearly 40 countries and hold a wide variety of influential roles.

A 1988 graduate of The University at Albany, SUNY, Ms. Lerner received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1991. Ms. Lerner’s work focuses on antitrust and commodities litigation, and she has recovered billions of dollars on behalf of institutional and individual plaintiffs over the course of her career. She has played essential roles in several landmark antitrust cases and remains one of the few women ever appointed as Interim Co-Lead Class Counsel in a Commodity Exchange Act case. In 2022, The National Law Journal named Ms. Lerner as part of the Elite Women of the Plaintiffs Bar, and Super Lawyers named her a Top-Rated Antitrust Litigation Attorney for the second year in a row.

In addition to her litigation work, she actively promotes volunteerism in the legal community and through women’s organizations. She is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion and is a member of Women Antitrust Plaintiffs’ Attorneys (WAPA), an organization for female attorneys who focus their legal practice on representing businesses injured by cartels or other anticompetitive activities.

About ABF Fellows

ABF Fellows serve as stewards of the American Bar Foundation, an independent, nonprofit research organization which conducts short- and long-term socio-legal research projects. The ABF’s mission is to serve the legal profession, the public, and the academy through empirical research, publications, and programs that advance justice and the understanding of law. The ABF’s research falls under one of three categories: learning and practicing law; protecting rights and accessing justice; and making and implementing law. The Foundation is committed to broad dissemination of research findings to the organized bar, scholars, and the general public. Notable Fellows include the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader-Ginsberg, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor, Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts, and Former United States Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton.
