This year’s scholarship recipients are Brea Hartsfield and Nicole Wallace. A luncheon in their honor will be held this upcoming September.

Hartsfield is an incoming first-year student who plans to study psychology during her time at WSU. Her goal is to become a child psychologist and open a private practice. She hopes to have her services be available to all teenagers in need of help. Wallace, an upperclassman, is majoring in political science and plans to minor in law and Arabic. She hopes to intern with a federal agency while getting her undergraduate degree. After graduating, Wallace plans to attend law school with hopes to later go into federal law enforcement and pursue a career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Central Intelligence Agency

“One of Corvias’ top priorities is to support and empower communities where our team members live, work and serve,” said Chris Wilson, chief executive officer of Corvias. “Through this scholarship program, we aim to help deserving students achieve their education goals by providing financial support to ease their financial burden. I offer my sincerest congratulations to Brea and Nicole on their achievement and look forward to following their academic journeys.”

”We appreciate our partnership with Corvias and their continuing commitment to our students,” said Mark Lawrence Kornbluh, PhD, Wayne State’s Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “We look forward to celebrating Brea and Nicole’s achievements this fall in person.”

The Corvias Scholar awards, presented each fall to two Wayne State University students, are made possible by a ten-year commitment of $1 million, $500,000 of which will be donated by Corvias and the remaining $500,000 funded through annual installments generated by the 40-year housing partnership between Wayne State and Corvias. During the course of the partnership, 80 students will be named Corvias Scholars, and the endowment created is expected to provide scholarships to students in perpetuity.

Established in 2018, the Wayne State Corvias Endowed Scholarship award can be used for tuition, fees, and room and board in on-campus housing. Recipients must be enrolled full-time, reside in on-campus housing, demonstrate financial need, and achieve and maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
