Grant Thornton’s Mark Margulies named to the 2024 “Power Leaders 250” list

South Florida Business Journal recognizes Margulies for his impact to the region’s business community

Mark Margulies, Grant Thornton’s regional managing partner for the Southeast, has been named to the South Florida Business Journal’s 2024 “Power Leaders 250” list for the second consecutive year. This recognition underscores Margulies’ enduring impact and influence in South Florida.

The annual “Power Leaders 250” honors celebrate individuals from South Florida’s top public and private companies and acknowledges their significant contributions to the region. The recognition is particularly meaningful for Margulies given his longstanding ties to Miami: He is a proud graduate of the University of Miami, and he has served in successive leadership roles in Grant Thornton’s South Florida offices since 1999.

Nichole Jordan, Grant Thornton’s national managing partner of Geography, attributes the firm’s ongoing growth in the region to Margulies’ steady leadership.

“Mark’s keen leadership ability is only matched by his talent for building high-performing teams, and those two gifts are guiding our firm’s growth across the Southeast,” Jordan said. “I feel fortunate that our team has Mark in our corner, providing decades of experience and industry knowledge at a time of great transformation and opportunity for businesses here in South Florida.”

A tax professional by training, Margulies has developed expansive knowledge of audit, assurance and advisory services in his nearly 35 years working with clients in industries as diverse as real estate, technology, manufacturing and private equity.

Prior to his current position, he served as the managing partner of the firm’s South Florida offices from 2021 to 2023. He was also the senior partner of Grant Thornton’s Corporate Tax Reporting and Advisory practice, as well as the national Tax managing partner for Privately Held Business and the Tax practice leader for Grant Thornton’s Southeast region. He currently chairs the firm’s Political Action Committee.

Outside of work, Margulies is heavily involved in Miami’s business and philanthropic communities. He is a member of the government affairs committee for the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and of the University of Miami Citizens Board: a group of South Florida business and civic leaders who support the university’s philanthropic efforts. Lastly, he is a longtime leader of Dolphins Challenge Cancer, a program spearheaded by the Miami Dolphins Foundation to raise money for cancer research.

“I share this honor with our entire South Florida team who work hard to bring high-quality, personalized services to our clients across every industry,” said Margulies. “South Florida has always been an exciting place to do business, and today that’s truer than ever. I look forward to working alongside the most talented team in professional services as we fuel growth for our clients, our firm and our region.”

Margulies is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s in taxation from the University of Miami.
