Reed Semiconductor Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Monolithic Power Systems

Reed Semiconductor Corp., a global leader in the design, development, and manufacture of advanced semiconductor solutions, announced today that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit (Case No. 6:25-cv-00449) in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas against Monolithic Power Systems, Inc. (MPS). The lawsuit alleges infringement of U.S. Patent No. 7,960,955, which covers power semiconductor devices incorporating a linear regulator to stabilize input voltage across multiple MPS product families.

The filing follows a series of lawsuits initiated by MPS in 2023, 2024, and 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. According to Reed, discovery in those cases has revealed the claims to be baseless. Reed’s new complaint also asserts that MPS engaged in bad-faith interference with Reed’s established business relationships and contractual agreements.

Founded in 2019 in Rhode Island by a team of semiconductor design and packaging experts, Reed Semiconductor has rapidly emerged as an innovator in addressing the industry’s most complex power management challenges. The company’s engineers have played key roles in advancing Constant On-Time (COT) control, Smart Power Stage (SPS) architecture, and DDR5 PMICs—technologies that form the backbone of AI and modern data centers.

“While we would prefer to compete in the marketplace on the strength of our technologies, the evidence is clear that MPS has improperly profited from the misappropriation of others’ intellectual property, while simultaneously weaponizing questionable patents of its own to intimidate competitors and suppress innovation,” said Wenkai Wu, Chief Executive Officer of Reed Semiconductor. “The copy-cat nature of MPS’s products, along with the patents it has asserted, demonstrate that its litigation is less about protecting innovation and more about harassing competitors through misuse of the legal system.”

Reed continues to invest millions of dollars annually in research and development, with recent product introductions including high-efficiency power stages, vertical power delivery (VPD) modules, multiphase controllers, and intermediate bus converters. Despite its relatively young age, the company has already gained strong market recognition and customer adoption for its innovative solutions.

Reed Semiconductor is represented in this matter by the global law firm Morgan Lewis LLP.
