At Square, “See you in the Neighborhood” is a promise rooted in providing a platform that helps sellers build and grow their businesses – and support their communities along the way. Square believes that in helping neighborhood businesses thrive, neighborhoods thrive – and the Corner Store in the Mission District is a powerful example of this commitment in action.

The Corner Store serves as both a community gathering space and a catalyst for local economic growth. Since opening in May 2025, it has brought new customers to neighborhood businesses, hosted events and resources for local entrepreneurs, and created meaningful connections between Square and the Mission's vibrant business community. The impact has been measurable: in 2025, Square processed more than 20,000 transactions per day in the Mission District, with transactions in the neighborhood growing 10% year-over-year in the second half of the year – proof that Square’s investments in neighborhoods directly translate to real economic growth for local sellers.

“The Corner Store is one of the many ways we're committing to investing in San Francisco and local entrepreneurs,” said Lindsey Irvine, Head of Marketing at Square. “Local businesses are among the most powerful community connectors in every neighborhood. By providing the right tools and creating a space where people can connect and grow their businesses, we're deepening our roots here and building the kind of neighborhood we all want to see.”

Starting with a relaunched BIGFACE Coffee residency with NBA All-Star and Square seller Jimmy Butler, the Corner Store will be open daily, from 8am to 5pm on Monday through Saturday and from 8am to 4pm on Sundays. The Corner Store officially opens with a block party on Thursday, January 29th at 3pm featuring the Golden State Warriors' DJ D Sharp, a local marching band, sports-themed games, and local food trucks.

The 2025 BIGFACE pop-up demonstrated the Corner Store's ability to drive meaningful local business results and community engagement – sales in the Mission grew 11% during the two-week activation, showing that BIGFACE's success supported the entire neighborhood. Building on this momentum, Square and BIGFACE are expanding the residency through April 12th, creating a dedicated space to serve the city during this high-energy season while listening, learning, and refining BIGFACE's future in the Bay Area. The residency will feature personalized coffee drinks with signature infusions, monthly in-store spotlights on local San Francisco small businesses, "Neighborhood Hours" with Square's customer support team, discounted menu items and perks for local business leaders, and in-store events with industry voices and local leaders.

“Our first BIGFACE Corner Store pop-up proved what I already knew: San Francisco shows up big time for great coffee. I’m happy to be partnering with Square for another round in the Mission District to share what fuels me with the community once again,” said Jimmy Butler, founder of BIGFACE Coffee.

During one of the city’s biggest weekends of the year, Square is helping local businesses maximize demand and visibility:

  • Hometown Love program: Square is providing $1,000 in processing credits to 100 eligible businesses so they can maximize their sales during the big weekend.
  • Off Season capsule collection: The Corner Store will host an exclusive limited-run pop-up of Kristin Juszczyk’s brand from February 5-7 while supplies last.
  • Square Stops Here bus tour: Local sellers and the Corner Store are featured as key stops on Visa and Square's hop-on hop-off tour (February 5-7), showcasing neighborhood businesses and Square's community impact.
  • Complex Family Style Food Fest: Square is powering the February 7th food festival and offering free admission. As part of this collaboration, festival-goers will have the opportunity to attend a one-of-a-kind sit-down kushiyaki experience from Akiko’s Sushi Bar onsite.

Following BIGFACE, Square will announce additional Corner Store residencies and programming that will feature and amplify other upstart local businesses throughout 2026, with more details to follow.
