James Todd & Co Announces Merger With Leonard Gold Chartered Accountants in Latest Expansion

West Sussex and Hampshire based commercial accountancy specialist, James Todd & Co, has announced its acquisition and integration with Leonard Gold Chartered Accountants, merging the two firms and transitioning all existing team members into the group.

James Todd & Co, a chartered accountancy team providing a broad scope of professional support, mentoring, and advisory services, with specific expertise in complex sectors, confirmed the news during an announcement about the launch of its rebranded new offices in Southsea, Portsmouth.

The Merger of Leonard Gold Into James Todd & Co Chartered Accountants

Formally completed on 1st August 2024, the merger followed a year of dedicated effort and the largest extension of the services offered by the James Todd & Co firm to date while ensuring all of the Leonard Gold Chartered Accountants team were welcome to join the newly expanded network.

In the announcement, James Todd & Co confirmed the appointment of former Leonard Gold Partner Julie Watts as Regional Director Portsmouth, who will be responsible for ensuring that high-quality, reliable accountancy and financial advisory services are delivered to business clients in the Southsea and wider Hampshire region, under the James Todd & Co banner.

Leonard Gold was founded in 1960 as a team of independent financial advisers, business consultants, and chartered accountants, providing commercial enterprises in Portsmouth with access to tax management, general accountancy services, and advice.

Part of the momentum behind the merger was the focus on supporting large and growing companies or businesses looking for strategic assistance beyond the limitations of generalised accountancy. James Todd & Co has long worked with local businesses to build ongoing relationships and to provide advisory services based on a thorough comprehension of their risks, objectives, and positions.

This merger provides companies within the south of England with access to this level of expertise, with a larger team of specialists working across three locations – Chichester, Fareham and Southsea - supporting owner-managed companies, rapidly scaling organisations and those with the potential to achieve ambitious targets within their relevant sectors.

James Todd & Co Accountancy Services for Hampshire Businesses

Michelle Buzzard FCA, Partner at James Todd & Co says, ‘It has been wonderful being able to verify this acquisition at the end of a fairly long process, and to have the opportunity to thank all the staff, partners, and consultants involved.

As an accountancy firm, our goals have always been to provide companies, charities and businesses in high-competition sectors with the best possible services and expert advisory support, especially in industries facing unique and fast-moving challenges.

Our accounting experts specialise in assisting charitable, non-profit and community enterprise organisations, businesses working in construction, property development and real estate investment, consultancy and professional service sectors, hospitality, entertainment, health and social care, retail clients and tech firms.

Bringing together two teams of accomplished accountancy professionals and cementing the credibility, reputation, and skills the James Todd & Co. team is known for is something we are proud to have achieved.

This expansion into Portsmouth means we can continue to consult, advise, support, and assist in a range of areas, from compliance to regulation, statutory reporting to tax management, audit and assurance to bespoke risk assessment, extending support to more clients across the south.’

Expectations for the Newly Expanded James Todd & Co Team

The newly appointed Regional Director Portsmouth will ensure that clients previously accessing accountancy and financial advisory services through the Leonard Gold Chartered Accountancy team will see minimal, if any, disruption in their ongoing and long-term support, alongside helping with onboarding new Portsmouth clients.

One of the core objectives is to combine expertise across corporate finance, bookkeeping, taxation advice, audit and assurance, and accounting services, providing businesses with opportunities to tap into high-quality, strategic support at every step of the way.

Michelle adds, ‘The Leonard Gold Chartered Accountancy team has a background and mission cohesive with our own, which has made the merger process more streamlined. Combining our teams provides accessible assistance for companies with great opportunities or more intricate risks who need advisory services sooner rather than later and within their local regions.

Extending our professional services from our flagship offices in Chichester, West Sussex, began with the addition of our Fareham offices in Hampshire, and bringing that expertise to Southsea is the next step within our strategic expansion.’
