Nick Lovely is back in LA: Advocating for Human Rights, Creative Freedom, and His Only Life

Actor, Writer, Singer, Filmmaker and Performer Nick Lovely calls for recognition and justice, shedding light on years of exploitation, human rights violations, and the fight for creative freedom.

-- A Complex Journey of Art, Struggle, and Survival

Nick Lovely, an English Actor, Writer, Singer, Filmmaker and Performer, has become a symbol of resilience in the face of systemic exploitation and human rights violations. His career spans almost two decades and has been marked by a constant fight for recognition and justice in a world that often seeks to silence him.

Lovely’s journey is one of resilience, creativity, and the pursuit of justice. From a young age, he was drawn to artistic expression, immersing himself in theater, film, music, and photography. Throughout his career, Lovely has encountered significant exploitation, with others often taking credit for his work without proper recognition or compensation. Despite these challenges, his passion and commitment to his craft have remained unwavering.

Lovely has faced numerous obstacles, including appropriation of his art, personal story, and language. He has openly addressed the emotional, psychological, and physical toll of such exploitation. The scars, both visible and invisible, from years of misuse have deeply affected him, leaving him physically and emotionally drained. Yet, his resolve to fight for creative freedom persists.

He dreams of a future where his struggles no longer need explaining—a life of simplicity, free from exploitation and oppression. After nearly two decades of enduring these challenges, he eagerly awaits the moment his true journey can begin, unburdened by the weight of his past.

The Struggle for Human Rights and Creative Freedom

Nick Lovely has dedicated his life and career to advocating for human rights. Despite his involvement in acclaimed works, he has faced financial exploitation and emotional distress, with much of his creative work co-opted without recognition or compensation, whilst others have had their human rights to survive.

His contributions to major films such as Slumdog Millionaire, Carol, Birdman, Inglorious Basterds, and Barbie and a long list of other acclaimed projects from Disney, La La Land, to internationally lauded films remain largely unrecognized to name a few. While Lovely did not perform in these films, his life experiences, creative input, and scripts played key roles in shaping them. His life inspired Slumdog Millionaire, and his contributions, including scripts and creative ideas, were exploited in Carol, Birdman, and Inglorious Basterds. Later, his experiences and artistic input, such as The Foal, became integral to the development of Barbie.

While later works like Eccles Street Garden and his one-man show anthology Worn Faces have earned attention, it is Lovely's earlier contributions that have deeply influenced the industry. Unfortunately, these earlier successes remain unrecognized, leaving him unrewarded for his impact on cinema and the arts. "My work has shaped many careers, but I haven't received the recognition or compensation I deserve," Lovely reflects. His experience underscores the ongoing struggle of artists whose creativity is exploited, often leaving them without proper recognition or financial stability. The fight for justice and fair compensation continues.

A Multifaceted Artist Facing Systemic Limitations

Nick Lovely’s career as an actor, writer, director, and performer has spanned nearly two decades, but much of his work and life has been overshadowed by exploitation. Despite his immense talent, his creations have often been appropriated by others for their own benefit, with little recognition or compensation for him.

“I was never acting regarding the abuse,” Nick explains. “I was manipulated and exploited as if I were." His life and work were turned into products without his consent, while others gained fame and fortune from them.

Nick’s journey has been a constant battle for creative freedom and justice. His work in theater, music, and film was often exploited, distorted, and used by others without compensation. This exploitation has hindered his recognition and made him question a system that reduces art and life to commodities, disregarding the identities and rights of creators connected to him.

Seeking Justice: Financial Remediation and Human Rights

Nick Lovely’s personal battle has evolved into a broader call for justice and recognition of artists’ rights. Beyond seeking fair compensation for his creative work, he advocates for systemic reform to protect creators from exploitation..

Lovely recounts years of psychological and physical abuse, including gaslighting, isolation, and manipulation. His pursuit of asylum in the United States represents both survival and his commitment to living and working without fear. “I have survived many attempts on my life and countless obstacles,” he said. “What I need most is the freedom to live and create, be who I am, and my rights and justice to protect me from further exploitation and give me a hopeful future.”

Through his advocacy, Lovely highlights universal issues, the violation of creative and human rights. “When my rights are violated,” he stated, “it reflects a much larger issue that affects every artist and individual; their constitutional rights that can cause limitations in their own liberty.”

The Crossing and the Cost of Creation

Nick Lovely’s Hollywood journey has been marked by both artistic success and struggle. A pivotal moment was Boogeyman: The Crossing, a script he wrote at Val Doro Entertainment. The film, centered on a ferry driver transporting the dead across waters threatened by a creature amidst the controversy of Native American land development, became a defining project in Nick’s creative journey.

Contracted to write, direct, and produce, Boogeyman was more than just a film for Nick—it represented the heart of his early artistic identity. Though he left the project in 2022, he continued to work on it until the 2023 WGA strike halted his efforts. “It wasn’t just work anymore,” Nick recalls. “It was my life, distorted and manipulated in ways I hadn’t experienced before.”

The story of Boogeyman symbolizes the conflict between art and ownership, creation and exploitation. Despite these challenges, Nick continues to fight for artistic integrity, the protection of creators’ rights, and creative freedom.

“I Can Walk, Is That the Plan?”: A New Comedy Performance

Amidst all struggles, Nick recently performed a show he wrote in January 2025 titled “I Can Walk, Is That the Plan?” Initially, Nick hesitated to perform it due to the overwhelming feelings of hopelessness caused by the exploitation. However, recently, he performed a longer bedroom version, where he blends discussions of human rights issues with his creativity and comedy to cope with his trauma. The performance is now available on Nick's YouTube and Instagram, showcasing his ability to turn pain into art and entertain with purpose.
