"The Foundation's mission is to raise awareness with teens, adults and families coping with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and trauma," Christina Aldan, Board Member of the Avery Burton Foundation, said. "Our annual Hike and Heal Event is a wonderful way to bring people together for a fun adventure where everyone can enjoy the outdoors, make new friends or share time with existing friends and family, while raising awareness and support for addressing the nation's mental health crisis."

The Avery Burton Foundation (ABF) offers programs in Mental Health First Aid Training and focuses on destigmatizing the conversation around mental health through outreach and educational resources for students and families. This is done, in part, with impactful storytelling via the ABF Resiliency Project and by providing Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) tips.

The goal of the ABF Resiliency Project is to ensure students have their voices heard and to inspire hope for others struggling with mental health issues. The Project debuted with original online content of local Southern Nevada high school senior student scholarship essays. These powerful and poignant stories revealed the adversity teens faced during a pandemic year filled with distance learning isolation, missed sporting events, self-care tips and more.

The Foundation (ABF), a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, is named after Avery Burton, a graduate of Foothill High School and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He died from suicide in 2017 after a major depressive episode.

Additionally, ABF provides annual scholarships for graduating high school students through the Avery Burton Excellence in Academics and Sports Scholarship.
