New Scar-less NeoGraft Hair Restoration Procedure For Men and Women Effectively Treats Hair Loss

PR Log - Jan 22, 2013 - TORONTO, Canada -- Recently featured on National CTV, Global News and Breakfast Television, Dr. Stephen Mulholland of SpaMedica Toronto demonstrates a new “scar-less” hair transplantation technique for permanent hair restoration, called NeoGraft  that is gaining tremendous popularity amongst both men AND increasingly women.

Dr. Mulholland, who has been teaching Advanced NeoGraft Hair Transplantation to physicians since 2012 in workshops throughout the United States, explained the nature of the problem with the currently available hair transplantation techniques.

“Typically hair transplantation patients need to have an excisional surgical procedure performed at the back of the scalp, called a strip graft, where a large piece of scalp tissue is removed and then the gapping defect stapled closed. The hairs from the strip graft are then individually extracted and expertly transplanted to the areas of thinning hair at the front or top of the scalp.

With the NeoGraft procedure the hairs to be transplanted are harvested “one-hair-at a-time” without any cuts or sutures. This “scar-less” harvesting of the donor hair is accomplished by using an angled, automated, a-traumatic “harvesting hand-piece" which sucks the hair one at at a time into a collection chamber, whereupon they are separated and then expertly transplanted one at a time into the thinning hair at the front of the scalp.

Advantages of NeoGraft over the older strip techniques include less pain and swelling at the back of the scalp donor site and the freedom to always wear the hair short at the back because there is no visible scar. The grafts are placed in the recipient area of thinning hair with an automated “implanter” minimizing trauma to the grafted follicles. Following transplantation with Neograft over 95% of the grafts survive and grow hair.

Only 2 % of males suffering from Male Pattern Hair Loss ever actually present for hair restoration surgery and are often dissuaded by the obvious from ear-to-ear scar left at the back of the scalp following the traditional strip technique, or by the unnatural appearance of hair transplantation with older multiple “hair plug” techniques

40-50% of women 50 years of age suffer from thinning hair, but also rarely seek hair transplantation because of the extensive and often visible scarring from the strip graft at the back of the scalp. Dr Mulholland has seen his Neograft practice grow, with 40% of his patients being female suffering from hair thinning.

“The Neograft procedure is a real game changer”, comments Dr Mulholland, “ with the scar-less donor site and natural “one-hair-at-a-time" transplant look hair restoration will become a very good choice for all men and women suffering from genetic hair loss, thinning and baldness. Women in particular, who do not have the choice of shaving their heads, will benefit tremendously by the NeoGraft Hair Transplantation procedure”.

With the Neograft procedure, hair transplantation is quickly advancing and growing in popularity and may quickly become the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure for men AND women. For a personal story, see the video below of a Toronto Neograft patient interviewed on The Global National TV.
