The Back Porch Hosts Paddleboard Races, Annual Poker Run Kicks Off With Many Celebrations, and 30A Concert Series Continue Each Sunday.
PRLog - Aug. 4, 2014 - DESTIN, Fla. -- The sport of stand-up paddleboarding has been a fast growing pastime on the Emerald Coast. When there are still waters and surfing is not an option, paddleboarders will be scattered across the Gulf. For the third year in a row, Paddle at the Porch stand-up paddleboard races will take place in Destin. Behind The Back Porch restaurant on August 16th, there will be two recreational races of one and three miles long, and a six mile elite race.  Food and drinks will be available for purchase and awards will be given to the winning racers.

The Emerald Coast Poker Run has been taking over the coast for a week every summer for the past 22 years. One of the largest summer poker runs in the nation, this boating celebration includes a luau at Helen Back, Miss Boat Week Bikini Contest at The Swamp, a Captain’s Party at AJ’s, and the Poker Run with an after-party. The festivities will take place August 13th-17th with a final party at Crab Island on Sunday. This popular event benefits several youth organizations raising over $150,000 each year.

The Gulf Place Concert Series on 30A will continue through August with live performances each week. Every Sunday at 6pm on the amphitheater lawn, Gulf Place will be filled with live music by bands such as Cadillac Willy, Ike Bartley, and Fearless Heights. Outdoor movies are another summertime favorite that many look forward to. Every Sunday, the Village of Baytowne Wharf hosts movie night at the Events Plaza. Across town, Central Square Cinema plays movies each Friday evening. Right in the heart of the town of Seaside, visitors can shop or admire the art galleries, and grab a snack at local vendors before watching a family favorite film under the stars. All who attend are invited to bring blankets or chairs to enjoy the outdoor events.
