PRLog - Oct. 15, 2014 - OWNERS of holiday homes in the UK have been asked by guests if they can bring an alligator with them, to provide naked butlers and more than one in 10 have discovered adult playthings left in the room after residents have gone.

Some people have mistakenly left their baby behind at the end of their stay while others have a left a variety of unusual objects, including wedding rings, an artificial leg and a 9mm bullet.

These were the findings of a new survey carried out by Country Cottages Online, which promotes self-catering holiday homes in the UK and Ireland.

The company canvassed holiday property owners on the habits of guests and how they feel people who stay in their accommodation should be treated.

Owners were asked about their most unusual request from a guest and a quarter of responses involved animals. There were inquiries about whether they could bring a variety of creatures, including a monkey, a snake, a goat, a sheep, a rat and one person wanted to keep 12 ferrets with them.

One respondent commented: “Someone asked ‘Do you have somewhere to exercise our alligator?’. The guest was refused.”

Guests surprised holiday home owners with some of the objects they wanted to have provided in the property. They included a full-sized piano, a harp, a 60ft bouncy castle, a semi-naked butler, a naked model for an art class and one person even asked for an extra bedroom.

Eight guests requested permission to dive into the on-site swimming pool fully clothed, one of them while wearing top hat and tails.

Twelve per cent of holiday cottage owners reported finding sex aids in their property after guests had vacated it while the jewellery left behind included two diamond rings and a new bride’s wedding ring.

False teeth are commonly left with owners having to post them back to guests and other items recovered included a batman costume, return airline tickets to South Africa, a false leg, a bullet and a roof for a Morris Minor convertible car.

Amazingly, two owners have discovered babies left behind. One respondent commented: “A baby was found by our housekeeper five minutes after the guests had departed, fast asleep in the lounge. The panicking parents returned a few minutes later with the father being thoroughly harangued.”

The survey also revealed that the dream celebrity guests for holiday home owners are Michael Palin and Helen Mirren. One in four respondents plumped for the comedian and TV travel host while 28 per cent opted for the Oscar-winning Hollywood actress. Cook Nigella Lawson, actor David Jason, the Duchess of Cambridge, JK Rowling and comedian Lenny Henry were also popular choices.

When it comes to how they think guests should be treated, a third of the holiday property owners surveyed mentioned good customer service as the most important aspect. Thirty per cent said providing clean accommodation was vital while one in four rated giving a warm welcome to guests as the best thing they should do for them.
