UK Airport Car Park Backs Important Benidorm Crime Reduction Campaign

By: Get News
Over five million holidaymakers from the UK visit Benidorm each year but in recent years tens of thousands of people have fallen out of love with the Spanish resort. Local businesses and residents have complained the popular holiday destination is having its reputation spoilt by rising crime, which includes pea men, muggings and violence from bouncers. To bring back the love for Benidorm a march has been planned for the 23rd November 2015

UK Airport Car Parks, which helps holidaymakers find cheaper airport car parking is backing an important campaign in Benidorm to combat street crime. The campaign, which has been launched by a group of ex-pats, is aimed to reclaim the streets from the criminals and make Benidorm a safer place to live and visit.

In recent years, there have been many reports of muggins taking place in Benidorm and residents and holidaymakers being pickpocketed. A lot of the crime takes place around the centre of Benidorm, which includes the indoor market where pea men operate. The Facebook campaign by Benidorm Robberies, Muggings and the Pea Men (https://www.facebook.com/groups/380645572126394), that helps to make people aware of the criminals who are operating in the area, now want the police and the Mayor to take action.

The campaigners who have launched a petition that will be handed into government officials in Benidorm are asking for people from around the world to sign it by visiting http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/stop-benidorm-crime.html. On 23rd November 2015 a peaceful march will take place at 10 am outside the Benidorm Town Hall to highlight the problems that crime is doing to the area. The Facebook campaigners behind the march are inviting people living or visiting Benidorm to join the march.

One of the organizers of the event, Karen Cowles, said: “It is time for us to show unity against the lack of protection. Without our tourism, without British tourists where would many of us be?”

UK Airport Car Parks who are calling on their customers to sign the petition are shocked at the lack of action being taken by the relevant authorities in Benidorm.

Chris Fryer from UK Airport Car Parks said: “Benidorm has so much to offer but in recent years many people have been put off visiting Benidorm due to the high crime rate. Hopefully, this campaign will wake up the powers that be and encourage them to take action and clean the streets of Benidorm and remove the muggers and pea men.”

The campaign has been seen as the first positive step in boosting tourism for Benidorm and by backing the campaign, the streets of Benidorm will become safer for tourists visiting the popular Spanish resort.
