Higher open as Saudi Arabia agrees to stabilize oil market

The markets opened higher with the Dow rising 23 points to 17,847 after Saudi Arabia said that it would help stabilize the oil market. Nasdaq gained 15 points to 5,120.


On the upside


SunEdison (NYSE: SUNE) promoted board chair Emmanuel T. Hernandez to the position of executive chair and named chief executive officer Brian Wuebbels to the position of chief executive officer of TerraForm Power (Nasdaq: TERP) and TerraForm Global (Nasdaq: GLBL).


TeleCommunication Systems (Nasdaq: TSYS) will be acquired by Comtech Telecommunications (Nasdaq: CMTL) in an all cash deal valued at approximately $430.8 million.


Shares of KaloBios Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: KBIO) continued soaring.

On the downside


GameStop (NYSE: GME) reported lower third quarter earnings and revenue that fell short of analyst expectations and forecast current quarter earnings below estimates.


Atlas Resource Partners (NYSE: ARP) amended its credit facility and completed its semi-annual redetermination of its credit facility borrowing base.


Applied DNA Sciences (Nasdaq: APDN) announced an $8.75 million registered direct offering.


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 7 to 5 on the NYSE and by nearly 7 to 5 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 added 4 points to 2,094. Bitcoin edged up a fraction to $322.
