LipsigLawyers.com reports on the number of workplace fatalities that have resulted from the "Fatal Four" as per the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS has stated that almost 58 percent of construction worker deaths on the job were caused by the "Fatal Four." The "Fatal Four" includes fatalities from falls, electrocutions, individuals being struck by objects or being caught between equipment or objects. The BLS concludes that in 2014 the most workplace deaths resulted from falls, taking 350 lives and accounting for 40 percent of all fatalities of construction workers.
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) is a federal safety regulatory agency that oversees the health and welfare of almost 130 million workers in the United States. The agency consists of 10 regional offices and 90 local offices throughout the country. OSHA has concluded that in the construction industry alone in 2014 there were 900 workplace fatalities making up 20 percent of the total number of fatalities that have occurred.
The National Consumers League (NCL) in its update on the 5 most dangerous summer jobs for teenagers has stated that construction, height work, and use of heavy machinery, make construction-related jobs especially dangerous for teens, who are generally less experienced than those workers who have been in the field a long time. The NCL issues its annual update in the hope of assisting parents and teens in the selection of the best possible summer jobs that are safe.
Thomas Moverman of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman responded to the NCL's list. He continues to urge federal regulators and agencies to revise the nation's safety regulations as they relate to the construction industry. He hopes that with the implementation of new rules and regulations, jobs in the construction field will become far less dangerous and fewer accidents and fatalities will occur.
