UNITE HERE announces the launch of www.AgainstFraud.org a new website designed to empower healthcare workers who have knowledge of their employers committing fraud against Medicare or Medicaid to file a False Claims Act (FCA) whistleblower case. The FCA rewards whistleblowers with up to a 30% share of recovered monies in cases of fraud against any U.S. government program.
With help from whistleblowers the U.S. government has recovered over $18 billion in the healthcare industry since 2009.

In recent years alleged healthcare fraud has been uncovered at some of the nation’s largest healthcare providers. Genesis Healthcare, one of the country’s largest skilled nursing healthcare companies recently settled FCA allegations with the Department of Justice for $52.7 million. This settlement comes only months after a previous Genesis settlement of FCA allegations in 2015.
Genesis Healthcare is the largest operating partner of Welltower Inc. (NYSE:HCN), a publicly-traded healthcare Real Estate Investment Trust focused on senior living assets.
Another Welltower nursing facility operating partner, Kindred Healthcare (NYSE:KND), paid $125 million this year to settle FCA allegations. The two whistleblowers in that case got $24 million.
