EA introduces Madden NFL Club Championship

The markets traded higher during the midday with the Dow rising 23 points to 21,697. Nasdaq edged up a fraction to 6,216.


Electronic Arts introduced its Madden NFL Club Championship competitive video game tournament. Players register online to represent a football team then compete against other players for the opportunity to participate in the Madden NFL Club Championship Live Finals. Cash prizes will be awarded to winning players.


Sempra Energy will pay approximately $9.45 billion in cash to acquire Oncor. Oncor had received a $9 billion bid from Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway last month but Elliott Management declared the offer too low. Elliott Management owns a sizable amount of Oncor's debt.


Foxconn will build three facilities in Wisconsin next year as part of its $10 billion plan to open a liquid crystal display factory in 2020. The first phase of development will cost approximately $1 billion and includes a back-end packaging line, high-precision molding line and end-device assembly line. An incentive package for the facility is awaiting approval from the state Senate, joint finance committee and governor.


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of nearly 9 to 8 on the NYSE while decliners edged out advancers by more than 4 to 3 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 rose 4 points to 2,429. Bitcoin plunged $77 to $4015.
