Green Sheep Water Rebrands to Open Water

Chicago, Illinois - September 19, 2018 - (Newswire.com)

Around the globe, one million plastic bottles are used every single minute, and 70% or more will end up in landfills and oceans. Awareness of our planet’s plastic pollution problem is gaining momentum. People care, and they want a better option. Green Sheep Water, the first company to serve water in 100% recyclable aluminum bottles, was founded with the purpose of providing a more sustainable alternative to plastic bottled water. Now, in an effort to better link their clean ocean mission to their name, the company is rebranding as Open Water.

The rebrand, which is currently rolling out nationwide, comes with the debut of new labels for their entire product lineup that better communicate the plastic-free mission and doubles down on the company’s long-term commitment to sustainability.

Launched in 2014 by Nicole Doucet and Jess Page, the company sought to find a more pragmatic solution to plastic bottled water: one that was better for the environment but didn’t sacrifice convenience. After researching various packaging materials including recycled plastics, glass, and cartons, the co-founders learned that aluminum is the most sustainable packaging material out there: it has the highest recycling rate, contains the most post-consumer material, is lightweight, and can be recycled infinitely.

Nicole Doucet, Open Water’s co-founder and CEO explains, “There’s a growing awareness of our ocean’s plastic pollution problem, and we’re all on the lookout for ways to reduce our impact. This rebrand will better align us with our mission and will make it easier for consumers to quickly understand our dedication to plastic-free oceans, which is what drove us to start this company in the first place.”

Through the 1% for the Planet organization, Open Water will continue to support plastic-free oceans by donating a portion of each sale to ocean conservation projects working to reverse the damage that plastics have already done.
