Wellbrooke of South Bend Hosts Senator Linda Rogers

Hoosier Career Programs, Industry Issues Topics of Discussion

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - August 16, 2019 - (Newswire.com)

Wellbrooke of South Bend, a Trilogy Senior Living Community located in South Bend, Indiana, recently welcomed Senator Linda Rogers to its campus on Monday, Aug. 12, for a campus tour and round table discussion. Attending the visit were members of Trilogy Health Services’ home office based in Louisville, Kentucky, representatives from the Indiana Health Care Organization (IHCA), and members of the team at Wellbrooke.

Upon her arrival to the campus, Rogers was given a first-hand glimpse at what life is like at Wellbrooke of South Bend. Residents in the main lobby were participating in an auction, and passing employees stopped to shake her hand and introduce themselves. Caley Nixon, Executive Director, led Rogers on a tour throughout the campus, which included visiting residents in their suites and chatting with employees.

At the round table discussion that followed the tour, Rogers had the opportunity to see the results of Trilogy’s workforce investments firsthand. Three Wellbrooke of South Bend employees, Crystal Douglas, Qualified Medication Aide (QMA), Samuel Gbortsu, LPN, and Zachery Myers, Dietary Aide, were present to share their stories.

Gbortsu, an LPN, has recently taken advantage of Trilogy’s new partnership with Purdue Global, through which they are offering employees the opportunity to pursue a college degree with 100% of their tuition covered. “I have been with the company six years now,” commented Gbortsu. “Purdue Global is unbelievable. At first, I say to myself, something must be attached to it. But it is free. This company is the best that I have worked for. It strives to do right by the employees, and that translates to the residents.”

It’s a win-win,” commented Rogers. “You’re getting a great employee and your employee is getting a great education.”

During the course of the discussion, IHCA’s President, Zach Cattell, emphasized the importance of programs that expand the scope of care healthcare employees can offer. “We need to educate folks on these important career programs,” he commented.

Initiatives such as Trilogy’s Fast Track Apprenticeship program have allowed employees to pursue additional certifications and grow their careers. Crystal Douglas utilized the Fast Track Apprenticeship program to take the next step at Wellbrooke. “I completed the Fast Track program and Trilogy’s CNA Preceptor program,” Douglas shared. “Wellbrooke really worked with me for the training hours I had to have. It was so nice to complete the hours here instead of someplace else.”

Before departing, Rogers thanked the campus team for all they do and assured them that she is here to support them.

“You have an amazing facility and an awesome staff,” commented Rogers. “I am thrilled to see you excited in your professions. That speaks volumes, really, for your organization. I wish I would have looked at this place earlier when my mom needed care. Keep me informed of any issues or anything that makes life difficult in your business. I’m here to help.”
