Street Artist Luis Angulo, Winner of Last Year's Graffiti Art Contest, Vows to Defend Title at 3rd Annual Graffiti Art Festival on Saturday, March 14, 2020

Classically Trained Venezuelan Street Artist and Muralist Frequently Draws on Culture for Inspiration

FORT WORTH, TX, February 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Several of America's top spray can artists will be coming to Fort Worth to compete for a cash prize at the 3rd Annual Graffiti Art Festival held in the Fort Worth Design District at 1953 Golden Heights Road on Saturday, March 14, 2020, from 11 am to 3 pm.

Each artist will be creating a billboard-sized art piece with an inspirational, family-friendly theme. The artists' canvasses will be shipping containers that are part of Box Office Warehouse Suites, the innovative business park at the center of the design district.

Street Artist and Muralist Luis Angulo won the top prize at last year's festival for his mural "Fierce," which embodies both female beauty and power.

"I am eager to come back to Fort Worth and defend my title at the 3rd Annual Graffiti Art Festival this March," said Angulo.

"Last year's mural came out better than my original conception of it," said Angulo. "I tried some new techniques that worked out really well," he added.

"My art frequently draws on themes from my Venezuelan culture," said the Caracas-born artist who has competed in the event each of its three years and who holds a Master of Fine Arts from University of Hartford.

"Politics, social issues, and pop culture all appear off and on throughout my work," said the artist. "For me, being a street artist and a muralist is about democratizing art," said Angulo. "Murals are a fantastic way to create art that can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone," added Angulo.

"Luis has made us an exceptionally beautiful mural that visitors to the design district will enjoy for years to come," said Jennifer Knittel, Administrator of the new Fort Worth Design District.

Attendance at the street art festival has grown consistently since its inception. "We drew about 4,000 the first year, doubled that last year, and we are expecting to draw more than 12,000 to the 3rd Annual Graffiti Arts Festival," said Knittel.

In addition to the contest, this year's event will include arts and crafts vendors and several local gourmet food trucks. Festival attendees can also do the Snap and Share Art Walk, a series of interactive murals that are ideal for snapping selfies or other photos to share.

Visitors to the festival will also be able to take free tours of Ft Worth business spaces for lease at Box Office Warehouse Suites, the innovative eco friendly shipping container business park and to shop at the retailers who have shops in the district.

Sponsors will be raffling prizes throughout the event, including a one-hour Lamborghini Driving experience donated by Fort Worth Car Storage. Admission to the event is free.
