MANHATTAN, N.Y. & PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Feb. 5, 2021 - PRLog -- American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in Princess Anne, MD—one of the top 20 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the United States for academic year 2020-2021, according to U.S. News and World Report—to create an admissions pathway for qualified students to attend AUA and earn their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees.

Under this MOU, students from UMES who qualify academically will receive preferential admission to AUA's MD program. In addition, AUA will waive students' application fees and expedite admissions timelines to those who pursue this opportunity.

"UMES and AUA have had a long history of cooperation with respect to our students' admission to AUA's College of Medicine," said Mobolaji A. Okulate, PhD, Biology Society Faculty Advisor for UMES. "I'm pleased that this cooperation is further being strengthened with the signing of an MOU."

Graduates of UMES who choose AUA will be eligible for a Preferred Partner Grant, in addition to any scholarships earned at AUA.

"This memorandum of understanding is another step forward in strengthening the ties between AUA and UMES, and I'm thrilled that even more aspiring medical school students now have the opportunity to fulfill their dreams of practicing medicine," said Gerald J. Wargo, Jr., AUA Vice President of Enrollment Management. "Studying medicine at AUA helps gives students a global perspective of medicine that you just can't match at other schools, and I look forward to welcoming UMES students to AUA in the future."
