Durable-goods orders post biggest gain in six months in a good sign for the economy

U.S. manufacturers received the biggest increase in orders in January in six months, pointing to an economy that is gaining steam again after a letdown at the end of last year. Orders for durable goods--- products meant to last at least three years--- rose 3.4%.
