Aspera Announces Major Upgrade to High-Speed File Transfer Software Suite at IBC 2010

Aspera faspex 2.0

The next generation of Aspera’s global person-to-person file exchange software introduces a new streamlined web interface and new support for enterprise-wide deployments. Key new features include:

  • Enterprise-scale Active Directory integration for very large user bases (thousands of individuals)
  • Automatic package forwarding between servers throughout the enterprise
  • Support for the new Aspera Cargo, a personal client application that provides Aspera faspex Server end-users with an easy-to-use email-inspired interface for sending and receiving digital files including automatic download of new packages
  • A comprehensive automation API for third-party applications to publish to and receive files from faspex using fasp

Enterprise Server, Aspera Client and Point-to-Point 2.7

The latest generation of Aspera’s core fasp file transfer software features new capabilities for massively scalable transfer workflows including support for unlimited data sizes (multi-terabytes) per transfer session, and any number of files, directory sources, or file ranges, including adding new files and file ranges to active transfers, through persistent sessions. Key new features include:

  • Unlimited file session sizes, including transfers over many terabytes
  • Optimized rate control mechanism for virtualized systems on VMware
  • Enhanced partial-file transfer management
  • New reliable query API enhancing Aspera’s web services API for easy, scalable monitoring of large numbers of transfer nodes

Aspera Console 1.5

The latest version of Aspera’s centralized management platform provides a powerful new indexing and reporting engine for building customizable, business-specific reports of transfer history. Key new features include:

  • Customizable reporting engine for user-defined reports
  • Ability to create custom indices for project, media, user or other criteria and tailor report content and format to sort and aggregate upon built-in or custom fields
  • Option to schedule automatic reports exported via email or imported into Excel and other standard tools
  • Support for automatic backup and purge of Console data
  • Built-in Secure Shell (SSH) tunnels for secure, minimalist management connections
  • Performance enhancements for large scale transfer databases (millions of records)

Connect Server 2.7 and Connect browser plug-in 2.6

The full suite of Aspera’s most popular client and server applications acquires a core set of new functionality with the recent software release. For third-party web applications, Aspera will preview a new SDK component for minimalist integration of fasp transfers within the browser.

Key new few features include:

  • New features of the Enterprise Server 2.7
  • Automatic installation on all browsers (Aspera Connect browser plug-in)
  • Support for IE8 and Chrome browsers (Aspera Connect browser plug-in)
  • Non-administrative install on all platforms
  • Automatic detection of HTTP proxy settings for HTTP fallback mode in restrictive environments

Partner Solutions Overview

Multiple storage vendors, including EMC, HP and Isilon, have recently introduced breakthrough solutions with Aspera fasp transport technology running on commodity hardware for transfers of large media files and file sets over worst-case global Internet conditions at several Gigabits per second in a single transfer stream.
