NCKU Organized Dray License Test on September 7th to Welcome New Students

To welcome and provide secure service to the new students, the New Students Service Team of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, has especially organized three-wheeled dray license test and set up five stages for the students to familiarize with the operation of the dray on September 7th, 2010.

As the new students move in to their dormitories, the senior students at NCKU will personally drive the three-wheeled drays and help transport their baggages. In addition, the senior students will offer campus tour to the new students, altogether leaving a memorable experience for the new students and the parents.

Continuing the tradition for 38 years, the event of baggage transportation and campus tour is one of the most popular orientation activities at NCKU and it has received many positive comments.

NCKU New Students Service Team student representative Mr. Huang said, “In the past, many new students have recalled the feeling of lost and helplessness when they first arrived at NCKU. However, the senior students from NCKU New Students Service Team have helped deliver the baggages of the new students to each campus and solve their confusions. Now we’ve become the senior students, it’s our responsibility and mission to pass on the passion and spirit of NCKU.”

Mr. Huang emphasized, “To enable smooth operations of the drays and improve the quality of the drivers, the dray license test was harder than last year. The participants needed to pass five stages, including straight line, consecutive S-line curves, downhill curve and designated parking, narrow roads and physical training to become eligible.”

He further explained, “In the first stage, the participants had to drive straight within lines that are slightly wider than the drays for 40m. In the second stage, they had to pass three consecutive S-line curves at slow speed. In the third stage, they had to turn at a downhill curve and park at a designated point. In the fourth stage, they had to go through two pillars which were only 5cm away from the drays. Lastly, in the fifth stage, they had to drive the drays and circle around Kuang-Fu Campus.”

Because fall semester starts on September 13th at NCKU, the baggage transportation service will begin from 8am to 5pm on September 10th and 11th at the rear train station when new students arrive at NCKU and start moving in to their dormitories.

NCKU senior students will drive three three-wheeled drays, decorated with paintings and graffiti, to go around the rear train station and each campus to transport the baggages of the new students, and more than 30 senior students will provide campus tour and consulting service to the new students and the parents.
