Wall Street Media presents exclusive video featuring Joe Donohue (http://twitter.com/Upsidetrader ) and Todd Stottlemyre (http://twitter.com/Toddstottlemyre ), who met on twitter through stocktwits.com and are now teaming up to launch a hedge fund.
Joe Donohue was a retail broker for 13 years at Kidder Peabody, Smith Barney, Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers. In 2000, he started a hedge fund from the ground up with three partners and grew it to $500 million before selling his partnership in 2005. Since that time he has been trading for himself in his own account.
Todd Stottlemyre is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball who played 15 seasons for the Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, and Arizona Diamondbacks. He joined Merrill Lynch & Co (NYSE: MER) as a financial advisor in May, 2003 and had clients in and out of baseball.
Todd joined StockTwits through his friend Howard Lindzon, a founder of StockTwits, and decided to follow Joe, who posted his trades daily with explanations of his unique trading models/strategies. They soon became great friends, and this unexpected meeting on a social media website led to the launch of their Desert Shores Capital hedge fund (http://desertshorescapital.com ).
In this video interview, Joe and Todd share their plan to trade both short and long opportunistically, because of the current market condition. They discuss yesterday’s earnings release of Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) as a good example, explaining that their revenue and margin were down, yet the shares were up $5.00/share. They will throw out the fundamentals and forget the earnings to deal with this traders’ market, just like they’ve been already doing with UltraShort 20+ Year Treasury ProShares (NYSE: TBT) and Bank of America Corporation (NYSE: BAC) trading 50 times this year.
