WINNIPEG, MB - Brodsky Amy Gould Kinahan Mahoney is pleased to welcome Joceline Maynard to the firm as an articling student.

Maynard joins the Winnipeg criminal defence firm after earning her Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law’s French Common Law Program. Her interest in criminal law began during her undergraduate studies in criminology at the University of Saint Boniface and the University of Manitoba and continued throughout law school through placements on multiple sides of the criminal justice system.

While studying at the University of Ottawa, Maynard completed an internship with the Ottawa Crown Prosecution and gained criminal defence experience through the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic. During the summer, she also worked at the Provincial Court of Manitoba, where she gained firsthand experience with the administration of criminal matters and how cases progress through the court process.

“Joceline comes to the firm with an unusually broad perspective for someone at the beginning of her legal career,” said the partners of Brodsky Amy Gould Kinahan Mahoney. “She has already had opportunities to see the criminal justice system from several different sides, and she has shown a clear commitment to criminal defence, advocacy, and access to justice. We are very pleased to have her joining our team.”

Maynard’s legal education also included work focused on people who can face barriers when navigating the justice system. In her third year of law school, she completed a placement with the Ticket Defence Program, which provides legal assistance to marginalized and street-involved individuals facing provincial and municipal offences. She also conducted legal research for Jurisource, an online platform providing free French-language common law resources.

Fluent in French and English, Maynard is particularly interested in ensuring that language does not become a barrier to accessing and understanding the legal system. She intends to build her career in criminal defence and advocacy.
