Irena Zubcevic to be inducted into IAOTP’s Hall of Fame

Irena Zubcevic is Senior Advisor at the Permanent Mission of Croatia to the United Nations in NY and Director of the Stakeholder Forum for a Sustainable Future. She was Director 1, Intergovernmental Policy and Review Branch at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. She will be inducted into the exclusive Hall of Fame by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). Her expertise and extraordinary talents have afforded her this merit.

With over three decades of professional experience in sustainable development and international relations, Irena Zubcevic has certainly proven herself as an extraordinary professional and expert in the field. She is a dynamic, visionary, and results-driven leader who has demonstrated success not just through diplomacy, international relations and sustainable development, but she also successfully engages and implements her projects and programs while assessing and following through in each challenging endeavor she faces. 

Irena was recently honored at IAOTP's Annual Awards Gala in New York City at the Plaza Hotel for her selection as Empowered Woman of the Year 2021 and the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award. She was inducted into IAOTP's exclusive Hall of Fame and was chosen for the Top 50 Fearless Leaders Publication by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). 

Ms. Zubcevic's critical areas of expertise include International Relations and Sustainable Development, Peacebuilding, Rule of Law, Governance, Policy and Strategy Development at National, Regional and International Levels, Project Management, Advocacy, and Outreach. She is working alongside many high-level functionaries, including Heads of States and Governments, Ministers, C.E.O.s in the private sector, intergovernmental organizations, and many media platforms, foundations, academia, and civil society in general. She has contributed to various reports and authored publications with these efforts.

Ms. Zubcevic supports countries and stakeholders ranging from governments to the private sector and  civil society in preparation for voluntary national reviews on the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals. She has put strategies into play for various sustainable development issues such as climate, oceans, cities, sustainable consumption and production, and transport.

Ms. Zubcevic's most current area of focus is on the acceleration of implementation of the  United Nations Sustainable Development Goals  and peacebuilding linking peace, security and development. 

Her impressive repertoire of prior roles includes experience as the Director 1 of the Ocean, Climate and Small Island Developing States Branch of the Division for Sustainable Development in the U.N. Department of Economic and Social Affairs and as a Senior Sustainable Development Officer. She held positions such as Adviser to the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Croatia and the Minister Plenipotentiary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.

Before embarking on her current career path, Ms. Zubcevic earned a Bachelor of Science in Linguistics and a Master of Science in Humanities from the University of Zagreb. She rounded her studies at Harvard University with a Certificate for Senior Managers in Government. Ms. Zubcevic is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Italian. 

Throughout her illustrious career, Ms. Zubcevic has received many awards and accolades. She has been recognized in numerous publications and magazines worldwide for her outstanding leadership roles and commitment to her field including Who’s Who in America and in the World. She was featured on the famous Reuters Building in Times Square and graced the front cover of T.I.P. (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine. She had an exclusive interview on T.I.P. Radio by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). IAOTP recognized her in 2020 as Top Chief of the Year in Sustainable Development. She upholds memberships with the International Society of Sustainability Professionals, the National Association of Professional Women and  International Leadership Association  .

 Aside from her successful career, Ms. Zubcevic is an active Board Member for the Women's Soroptimist International of New York City. She is recognized by various National and Local Charities and Schools for her excellence. 

Looking back, Ms. Zubcevic owes her success to her perseverance, ability to comprehend other cultures, and mentors with whom she has been honored to work. She is driven by a genuine desire to help others and maintains the highest level of honesty in all of her professional and personal activities. When she is not working, she likes traveling and spending time with her family. In the future, she aspires to continue being an agile and inspirational leader by making a difference in people's lives. She believes in turning a crisis into opportunities to help others and making the world a safer and more sustainable place, including combating impacts of climate change and turning our societies into net-zero economies where all should prosper and produce and consume sustainably.

 Irena Zubcevic’s latest accomplishment is a chapter that she wrote on United Nation’s Sustainable development Goals in the book “Heroes of environmental diplomacy” which was published by Routledge on 27 June 2022.
