What Happened?

Shares of workforce solutions provider ManpowerGroup (NYSE: MAN) fell 15.5% in the morning session after the company reported its third-quarter 2026 financial results and announced an upcoming chief executive officer transition.

According to a company press release, ManpowerGroup reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $4.84 billion, up 4.4% year on year, and net income of $34.1 million, or $0.71 per diluted share, up from $18.0 million, or $0.38 per diluted share, in the prior-year period. Its non-GAAP profit of $1.01 per share was in line with analysts’ consensus estimates. The release revealed that restructuring expenses, strategic transformation charges, a business sale adjustment, and hyperinflationary currency translation losses in Argentina reduced earnings by $0.30 per share, resulting in adjusted earnings per share of $1.01.

In a separate announcement, the company disclosed that its board of directors elected President and Chief Strategy Officer Becky Frankiewicz as Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2027, while Jonas Prising, who served as CEO since 2014, will transition to Executive Chair of the board. The sharp decline reflected investor disappointment with the underlying earnings growth and persistent restructuring costs dragging on profitability.

What Is The Market Telling Us

ManpowerGroup’s shares are very volatile and have had 29 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for ManpowerGroup and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.

The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was 3 months ago when the stock gained 32.4% on the news that the company reported impressive second-quarter 2026 earnings release, fueled by a top- and bottom-line beat and accelerating demand across its core brands.

The company posted $4.86 billion in revenue, up 7.5% year-over-year, driven by very strong growth in its Manpower brand and recovering IT and RPO staffing trends in the U.S. Profitability saw a dramatic swing, with GAAP earnings reaching $1.13 per share compared to a heavy loss last year, a result of gross profit expansion and SG&A reductions. As Chair & CEO Jonas Prising noted, the results reflect "good execution across our brands and markets, continued cost discipline and improving demand." With third-quarter earnings guidance set at a better-than-expected $1.01 per share midpoint, investors are cheering the company's successful transformation strategy and clear return to profitable growth.

ManpowerGroup is up 46.8% since the beginning of the year, but at $44.14 per share, it is still trading 29.9% below its 52-week high of $62.95 from August 2026. Despite the year-to-date gain, investors who bought $1,000 worth of ManpowerGroup’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $391.69.
