Shares of home energy technology company Enphase (NASDAQ: ENPH) fell 15.7% in the morning session after the company reported third-quarter 2026 financial results that missed Wall Street's revenue and earnings expectations, alongside disappointing fourth-quarter guidance.
According to a company press release, Enphase generated third-quarter revenue of $293.3 million, representing a 28.5% year-on-year decline. This figure fell short of Wall Street analysts' consensus expectations of $306.1 million. Its adjusted earnings of $0.41 per share also dropped from $0.90 in the same quarter last year, missing consensus projections of $0.50.
Enphase guided for fourth-quarter 2026 revenue of approximately $240 million at the midpoint, reflecting a 30.1% year-on-year decrease. This forecast underwhelmed investors, coming in 19.6% below analysts' estimates of $298.6 million.
During the quarter, Enphase shipped approximately 1.42 million IQ Microinverters, totaling 655.2 megawatts DC, and 129.9 megawatt hours of IQ Batteries. What is the market telling us
Enphase’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 57 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for Enphase and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.
The previous big move we wrote about was 20 days ago when the stock dropped 3.8% on the news that explosions reported in the Saudi capital and escalating clashes near critical maritime shipping straits sent crude oil prices surging over 5%, compounding pressure from elevated Treasury yields.
According to AP News, the sudden geopolitical shock in the Middle East rattled investor confidence, reigniting concerns over global energy supply disruptions and persistent inflationary headwinds. With crude prices surging rapidly, market participants fear sustained energy costs could complicate the inflation outlook and force central banks to keep monetary policy tighter for longer.
Adding to market unease, the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield hovered near a 24-year high of approximately 5.35%. Higher benchmark yields increase borrowing costs for corporations and consumers alike while compressing equity valuations, as future earnings are discounted at higher rates. The confluence of spiking energy commodities and elevated debt yields prompted widespread risk-off positioning across major equity indices, as traders reassessed macroeconomic growth prospects amid mounting geopolitical tension and tightening financial conditions.
Enphase is down 24.8% since the beginning of the year, and at $25.37 per share, it is trading 64.9% below its 52-week high of $72.33 from June 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Enphase’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $113.03.
