What Happened?
Shares of data center products and services company Vertiv (NYSE: VRT) fell 3.5% in the afternoon session after downward momentum continued as GLJ Research initiated coverage on the company with a Sell rating and a $188 price target, as reported by StreetInsider, while broader macroeconomic headwinds weighed heavily on artificial intelligence infrastructure stocks.
GLJ Research analyst Gordon Johnson pointed out that the firm's 2027 adjusted EBITDA estimate for the company was below consensus forecasts. Adjusted EBITDA measures earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, with adjustments for non-recurring items. Broader market conditions also contributed to the downward pressure. Rising Treasury yields and climbing crude oil prices pressured market sentiment and weighed on chip and artificial intelligence infrastructure stocks.
After the initial drop, the shares shed some of the losses and rose to $244.73, down 3.3% from the previous close.

What Is The Market Telling Us
Vertiv’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 46 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.
The previous big move we wrote about was 13 days ago when the stock dropped 2.6% on the news that the 10-year Treasury yield jumped to 5.14%, reaching levels last seen in 2007 and raising borrowing costs across the economy. U.S. stocks fell early Thursday, according to the Associated Press, as surging Treasury yields and rebounding energy prices weighed on financial markets. A Treasury yield is the return investors earn for lending money to the U.S. government.
Vertiv is up 39.4% since the beginning of the year, but at $244.73 per share, it is still trading 35% below its 52-week high of $376.23 from May 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Vertiv’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $10,585.
