Shares of healthcare services company Agilon Health (NYSE: AGL) jumped 17.5% in the morning session after the company reported third-quarter 2026 earnings, swinging to a net profit and delivering revenue growth.
The company swung to a net income of $35 million compared to a net loss of $110 million in the same period of the previous year. In addition, adjusted EBITDA reached $64 million, recovering from negative $91 million. These improved financial results were supported by a decline in its medical services expense ratio to 88.5%. What is the market telling us
agilon health’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 89 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for agilon health and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.
The previous big move we wrote about was 17 days ago when the stock gained 1.5% on the news that investors rotated into defensive assets and priced in rising expectations that midterm election outcomes could reverse recent federal spending cuts.
agilon health is up 556% since the beginning of the year, but at $109.60 per share, it is still trading 15.6% below its 52-week high of $129.84 from July 2026. Despite the year-to-date gain, investors who bought $1,000 worth of agilon health’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $177.30.
