What Happened?

Shares of genomics company Pacific Biosciences of California (NASDAQ: PACB) jumped 29.7% in the afternoon session after EpiSign announced the launch of EpiSign METRIC 5-base, enabling laboratories to analyze DNA methylation data on the company's HiFi sequencing platform.

The software utilizes an automated classification framework covering over 300 episignature disorders. What Is The Market Telling Us

PacBio’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 86 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for PacBio and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 2 days ago when the stock gained 5.8% on the news that genomics provider Sampled announced a five-year contract worth up to $27.1 million from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to support research using PacBio Revio sequencing systems. Under the agreement, Sampled will perform genomics analyses for the Million Veteran Program. Sampled is one of the largest U.S. users of the PacBio Revio platform and deploys multiple PacBio Revio long-read sequencing systems to provide high-throughput sequencing workflows.

PacBio is up 30.4% since the beginning of the year, but at $2.41 per share, it is still trading 9.9% below its 52-week high of $2.67 from January 2026. Despite the year-to-date gain, investors who bought $1,000 worth of PacBio’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $93.93.
