While it’s been inspiring to read, see, and hear all the different ways educators have managed to overcome the hurdles and teach from a distance, there are still existing barriers for teachers that need to be addressed.
Worldwide, schools are slowly coming out of lockdown as each country rolls out its own exit strategy. It’s fantastic news to hear that students are being allowed to go back to school, however, students in isolation (for example) will still have to learn from home. Hybrid classrooms are a combination of in-class teaching meshed perfectly with distance learning. In this setup, students can attend their lessons at home or in the classroom. Teachers need only to set up in this way for the instructional phases of a lesson, or parts of a lesson that involve live conversation.
Setting up a hybrid classroom isn’t difficult, and there’s not a great deal required to get started. Anyone who wishes to get started should have some kind of interactive solution, e.g. an interactive board with projector, and have a webcam installed relatively close to the board. This ensures that both the teacher and the learning material are visible to the students in the classroom and online.
