Community Comes Together for Safety at Plaza de Las Cruces

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers, helped host a dynamic event on Saturday, bringing together over 300 community members for a day dedicated to safety, disaster preparedness, and public engagement.

LAS CRUCES, NM, April 02, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The event was held in partnership with Ngage New Mexico, which sponsored the initiative and supported the presence of Volunteer Minister tents carrying the message: "Something Can Be Done About It!"

The Ngage New Mexico host welcomed attendees to the Plaza and opened the event with remarks highlighting the importance of local partnerships. She encouraged the public to visit each booth, which provided valuable information on emergency preparedness, disaster response, and community safety resources.

Don Curnutt, Civic Leader and Interfaith Specialist from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, member of the "Interfaith Alliance of the Southwest", delivered a keynote presentation on disaster preparedness. His talk resonated strongly with attendees.

Cynta Torres, Communication Director for the Las Cruces area Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints spoke on child safety and sharing in her presentation.

Entertainment for the event was provided by "Las Flores de Nuevo Mexico", whose lively and colorful dance routines captivated the crowd. The performances not only delighted visitors at the Plaza but also drew in attendees from the nearby Farmers & Crafts Market.

Adding a ceremonial touch, Miss Las Cruces, Anastacia Mia Aragon, attended in her official sash and crown, participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony and helping welcome the community to the event.

The attendees toured the Volunteer Ministers tents, learning about the response to local disasters or global crises and about the training program in practical solutions to virtually any life's many problems—from resolving study difficulties to helping addicts withdraw from drugs and from relieving the emotional and spiritual factors in stress and trauma to salvaging troubled relationships.

The Volunteer Ministers program, established more than three decades ago by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, is rooted in the belief that individuals can make a meaningful difference in their communities. The group has become known for its humanitarian efforts, assisting in disaster zones and collaborating with public service organizations worldwide.

Their work is featured in the new feature-length film Operation: Do Something About It on the Scientology Network.
