About the Author:

Dr. Yonnas Kefle, a distinguished economist and former U.S. diplomat, brings a wealth of experience to his upcoming book, "Energy and the Political Economy of Nations." Originally from Ethiopia, Dr. Kefle pursued his education in France and the United States, culminating in a Ph.D. in Economics from Howard University in Washington, D.C.. Additionally, Kefle is also the author of the book "Accidental American."

His professional journey includes roles as an economist at the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics and later as a diplomat in the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. It was during this time that Kefle's passion for energy was ignited by a childhood dream to electrify rural African communities that heavily relied on rudimentary energy sources like iron ores, charcoal, and kerosene.

Dr. Kefle's work in energy has been driven by a deep understanding of its impact on climate change and global warming. Having witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of climate change in his homeland and the broader Sahel region of Africa, as well as during his diplomatic tenure in the Caribbean, where he observed recurring hurricanes, earthquakes, ocean acidification, and a decline in marine biodiversity, Dr. Kefle is acutely aware of the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions.

His motivation for writing "Energy and the Political Economy of Nations" stems from a desire to highlight the ramifications of unchecked energy extraction and consumption on national economies and humanity's collective destiny. As fossil fuel-based energy resources dwindle and environmental repercussions intensify, Dr. Kefle's book serves as a timely call to action for a sustainable future.
