A Yearbook Message and a Keepsake Stay With a Marine Through War and Homecoming
Author's Tranquility Press announces a novel by Ron Matejka and Marilynne McKenzie about a memory that survives decades, war, and the passage of time

MARIETTA, GA - Before he left home as a teenager, Dan Mastik received two gifts from Sophie Sandori, the girl who lived down the block and held a special place in his heart. One was a handwritten message wishing him "lots of luck." The other was a red, white, and blue beaded keychain.

He would carry both for the rest of his life.

That enduring connection forms the foundation of Lots of Luck Noblesse Oblige Rentier, a novel by Ron Matejka and Marilynne McKenzie that follows Dan's journey from a small-town upbringing to military service overseas and, ultimately, back home again.

Returning aboard a military medical flight after being wounded during deployment, Dan finds himself reflecting on the people and moments that shaped him. Among those memories is Sophie, whose message and keepsake remained with him through deployments overseas, a Purple Heart, and years of wondering what became of his first love. Over time, the keychain becomes so meaningful that he attaches his Purple Heart to it, creating a powerful reminder of both his service and the life he left behind.

Moving between Dan's past and present, the novel combines military adventure, romance, faith, and personal reflection. Central to the story are memories carried across decades, unfinished questions, and the possibility of reconnecting with someone who once meant everything.

The story explores the lasting power of memory, love, and sacrifice. Through Dan Mastik’s journey, Lots of Luck Noblesse Oblige Rentier reveals how the people and moments that shape us can remain with us through hardship, distance, and the passage of time.

More than a story of war and homecoming, the novel is a reflection on loyalty, resilience, and the connections that continue to guide us long after we leave home.
