Seasoned Healthcare Executive and NEMT Industry Veteran Joins to Lead Next Chapter of Growth

Modivcare, a leading provider of non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) services, today announced the appointment of Josh Komenda as CEO of the NEMT business unit and Kenneth Shepard as Executive Vice President, enterprise CFO.

Josh brings more than two decades of experience leading healthcare organizations focused on expanding access to care for underserved populations, and a proven track record of building and scaling mission-driven businesses through operational excellence and technology-enabled innovation.

"We are thrilled to welcome Josh to Modivcare," said Daniel Silvers, Chairman of Modivcare’s Board of Managers. "His deep expertise in non-emergency medical transportation, his entrepreneurial background, and his unwavering commitment to member experience make him exceptionally well-suited to lead our organization. We are confident that under his leadership, Modivcare will continue to grow and deepen its impact on the members and communities we serve."

Josh is the founder and former CEO of Veyo, a NEMT company serving Medicaid and Medicare populations across the United States. During his tenure, Veyo expanded from a regional operation in two states to a national company serving members across nine states and facilitating more than 8.4 million annual trips. Most recently, Josh founded Brightwood Health, an in-home care company dedicated to helping older adults age safely, independently, and with dignity.

"I am honored to join the Modivcare team at such an important moment for the organization and for the broader healthcare transportation industry," said Josh Komenda. "Modivcare has built a strong legacy of delivering safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation services that help people access the care they need. I look forward to working alongside our team members, health plan partners, government customers, transportation providers, and community stakeholders to build on that foundation and advance our shared mission."

Josh holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from the University of Southern California. He is based in Denver, Colorado.

Kenneth “Ken” Shepard joined Modivcare in 2015, taking on increasing responsibility in the company’s Finance and Accounting functions since that time. Most recently, Ken served as the CFO of the company’s NEMT business, responsibilities he will retain in his new role.

“Ken is an outstanding Finance leader and a critical member of the company’s executive leadership team,” said Silvers, Chair of Modivcare’s Board of Managers. “This well-earned promotion is a reflection of Ken’s professionalism, expertise and leadership.”
