Azul, the trusted leader in enterprise Java for today’s AI and cloud-first world, today announced the general availability of Azul Payara Server 7 and Azul Payara Micro 7 with Final TCK certification across all three Jakarta EE 11 profiles – i.e., Full Platform, Web Profile and Core Profile. This release marks the largest in Payara’s history and a milestone in Azul’s mission to deliver a unified enterprise Java platform — one vendor for the JDK, application server and cloud-native microservices runtime.

Payara 7 introduces support for Jakarta Data, delivering the @Repository annotation and a standardized data access layer to development teams. JDK 21 is the minimum supported version, with Docker images available for JDK 21 and JDK 25. Existing Payara 6 applications deploy to Payara 7 by upgrading the runtime – no code changes required.

All supported branches — Payara 4, 5, and 6 — also receive updates this cycle, including a critical security patch. Azul customers benefit from one contract, one support team, 24–48-hour bug fix SLAs and 2-hour critical incident response.

For detailed upgrade instructions, see the Payara Platform documentation.

FAQs

Do I need to rewrite my Payara 6 application to upgrade to Payara 7? No. Upgrading from Payara 6 to Payara 7 is easier than expected. The jakarta.* namespace is stable between Jakarta EE 10 and EE 11, which means existing Payara 6 applications deploy to Payara 7 by upgrading the runtime – no code changes required.

Which JDK versions does Payara 7 support? JDK 21 and JDK 25 (latest LTS), with Docker images available for both.

Is the critical security fix available for older Payara versions? Yes — the security patch is included in this release cycle for every supported branch i.e., Payara 4, 5 and 6.
