Eric Fisher Stone, a poet and PhD student at Oklahoma State University, delves into the raw, primal experiences of nonhuman creatures in his latest poetry collection, Bear Lexicon. Through poems that connect the worlds of animals, space aliens, and feral children, Stone uncovers a language that transcends human thought, offering a unique exploration of consciousness that speaks to the fundamental emotions of living beings.

Bear Lexicon invites readers to explore a reality beyond the human-centric worldview, bringing to life the struggles and sensations of animals such as sparrows, frogs, and squirrels. Stone’s collection is a poetic journey to a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between all living things, urging readers to acknowledge the complex and urgent lives of creatures beyond their own.

“Bear Lexicon is a call to commune with mysteries,” said Stone. “In my work, I aim to connect with broader worlds outside the anthropocentric bubbles we live in, showing that the experiences of nonhuman beings are just as real and urgent as our own.”

Eric Fisher Stone, originally from Fort Worth, Texas, holds an MFA in Writing and the Environment from Iowa State University. He is currently pursuing his PhD at Oklahoma State University while teaching composition and tutoring. His previous works include The Providence of Grass (Chatter House Press, 2018), Animal Joy (WordTech Editions, 2021), and Love: A Zoography (Shanti Arts Publishing, 2026).

His work has been recognized for its bold exploration of nature, animals, and the human condition.
