Fondation La Colombe Launches Albinism Awareness Campaign to Promote Inclusion and End Stigma in Congo “ PLUS DES COULEURS”

The digital campaign aims to promote inclusion and end stigma in Congo “ PLUS DES COULEURS”

-- Fondation La Colombe, led by humanitarian advocate Mrs Hamida Shatur Kamerhe, is expanding its impactful mission with a new campaign focused on albino awareness. This initiative seeks to educate communities across the Democratic Republic of Congo and Africa about albinism, breaking harmful myths and promoting acceptance. The foundation continues its broader efforts to support vulnerable populations through education, healthcare, and sustainable development in 2025.

History and Mission of the Foundation

Fondation La Colombe Œuvres Sociales was born from a spirit of compassion and a vision for justice. Founded by committed community leaders including Mrs. Hamida Shatur Kamerhe, the foundation is dedicated to uplifting marginalized populations throughout the DRC. Since its inception, La Colombe has implemented sustainable, community-led initiatives aimed at addressing complex challenges in health, education, and empowerment.

Our Mission

La Colombe works to reduce inequality and strengthen access to essential services such as education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and social support. The foundation’s mission is to foster an inclusive society where every individual can thrive, especially those facing discrimination, poverty, or disability.

Our Vision

The foundation envisions a stronger, more equitable Congo—one where people are not defined by their condition but by their potential. Through a local-to-global approach, La Colombe builds long-term partnerships to inspire systemic change and social cohesion.

New Campaign: Albino Awareness & Inclusion

The Albino Awareness Campaign, launching 1 July 2025, seeks to confront superstitions and raise awareness about albinism, a genetic condition caused by a lack of melanin—not a curse. The campaign will offer educational resources online and launch media campaigns aimed at teaching Congolese and African communities how to live in harmony and treat people with albinism with respect, dignity, and understanding.

Other Key Projects & Beneficiaries

La Colombe also continues its support for:

  • Rural women, through entrepreneurship and agriculture
  • Children of soldiers, via vocational training (500 enrolled)
  • Sport and apprenticeship programs, empowering over 800 women
  • People with disabilities, who remain a priority in all programs

Quote from the Founder:

“We believe in building a future where dignity, education, and healthcare are accessible to all,” said Mrs. Hamida Shatur Kamerhe, founder of Fondation La Colombe. “Albinism is not a curse. Through compassion and awareness, we will replace fear with understanding and ensure every child is protected.”
