From Women's Therapy Institute to Well Together: A Story About How Healing Grows

-- Well Together Institute was founded as the Women's Therapy Institute — and in many ways, that identity remains. The work hasn't changed. The commitment to women's wellness hasn't wavered. What changed is the understanding of what that commitment actually requires.

When a mostly male military squadron invited the institute to provide resiliency training, founder Mabel Yiu, LMFT, Ed.D said yes — because she understood that supporting the men alongside women was always part of supporting the women themselves. And because the men deserved that support in their own right. Those who have spent years protecting others and guarding themselves are often the least practiced at being cared for. That decision didn't dilute the mission. It deepened it.

The rebrand to Well Together Institute wasn't a departure. It was an arrival — and a long time coming. For ten years in women’s mental health while the eight years working with the soldiers and their families, the work had quietly outgrown its name. The mission had expanded, the populations had diversified, and the insight had deepened. The name finally caught up to what the work had been teaching all along: that no one heals alone, and that wellness — real, lasting wellness — is always systemic and relational.

Well Together Institute doesn't uplift women by diminishing men. It doesn't validate men by dismissing women. It strengthens both — because a world where only one side of the relationship is well isn't a healed world. It's just a different imbalance seesaw.

Under Mabel's leadership, Well Together Institute specializes in strengthening individuals, couples, families, and teams, rebuilding communication, working through past trauma, and developing skills for long-term emotional resilience. The institute combines systemic and interpersonal wellness through evidence-based, compassionate treatments — going beyond traditional talk therapy to address what's stored not just in the mind, but in the body and in relationships.

"At Well Together, we believe that healing happens in connection — with yourself, your loved ones, and the systems you are part of," said Mabel. "Our goal is to get everyone well together, from parents to couples, military, and professionals, and find a direct, supported path to the right treatment."

What They Offer

Well Together Institute offers the full spectrum of care — from individual and couples therapy to specialized treatments for those whose healing requires a different approach. There is no single door into wellness. Some people need a skilled therapist and a consistent space to process. Others need a modality that works below the surface of conversation, or a program built for a life and a relationship that standard models weren't designed for. Well Together Institute keeps multiple doors open — because the right care is the one that actually fits.

Whatever the entry point, the belief underneath every service is the same: healing is relational, recovery is possible, and no one should have to navigate either alone.

Individual Therapy — For anyone navigating stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, or the quiet weight of carrying too much for too long. A skilled therapist, a consistent space, and the room to finally be honest about what's actually happening.

Couples Therapy — For partners who want to communicate better, repair what's been damaged, or build something more sustainable together. Relationships don't fail because people stop caring. They struggle because no one taught them how to do this.

EMDR — For those carrying trauma that words alone haven't been able to reach. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps clients process what's been stored in the body, not just the mind.

Ketamine-Assisted Therapy — For clients who have tried conventional approaches and need a different door in. Clinically supervised ketamine therapy offered as part of a broader, integrated treatment plan — not a shortcut, but a new entry point.

Resiliency Training — For teams, organizations, and individuals navigating high-pressure environments. Built originally for special operations military, now available to anyone whose life demands more than most people understand.

Neurodivergent Couples Program — For couples where one or both partners are neurodivergent, and where the standard couples therapy model simply doesn't fit. Well Together Institute meets clients inside the relationship they actually have.

Virtual Care — Virtual therapy across California and non-therapy beyond California. Because the right care shouldn't depend on their zip code.

“We built the Well Together Institute to meet people where they are — so that we can help them rediscover what it means to be well, together," said Mabel Yiu. "Well Together is for anyone who wants to feel more connected, grounded, and capable of moving forward.
