A Boeing accredited Californian steel distributor has issued a complete guide to the benefits of using stainless steel in the aerospace industry.
Alloy Metals Company (AMC), the stainless steel distributor which has been publicly praised for its service by airplane manufacturing giants Boeing, has issued the complete guide to the use of stainless steel and why it is the safest metal available to be used in airplane components.
The guide shows how the use of stainless steel to build airplanes is one of the reasons flying is so safe.
A spokesman for AMC said: “Stainless steel has huge benefits for those working in the aerospace manufacturing industry. It is used in landing gear, engines and exhaust components. Its reliability and durability, largely due to its resistance to corrosion, means it is a trusted choice for most manufacturers.
“Stainless steel is a traditionally heavy metal and it is really strong. Even though steel is so heavy, it actually helps to reduce the weight of the completed airplane. The sheer strength of the steel means that manufacturers can use less of it and reduce the weight of the components they are producing, so airplane manufacturers can keep the weight of the planes down.
“Another reason manufacturers opt for stainless steel in their products is its durability. Using less durable products could lead to premature failures or costly repairs, but stainless steel can give them the longevity that airplane companies expect and require.
Stainless steel can be bought in various forms, including SS plates, bars, sheets and forging. AMC is a sheet supplier providing all of the other types of stainless steel required in the aerospace and various other industries, including the automotive trade.
AMC is a supplier of commercial and aerospace stainless steel, as well as aluminum, nickel alloys and titanium.
The company was founded in 2014, but the team has more than 30 years of experience in the aerospace industry.
Earlier this year, AMC was voted ‘Outstanding Performance Award’ by Boeing for processing and delivering parts when no-one else could during the 777 development shortage. Boeing also nominated AMC for Supplier of the Year.
Stainless steel bars are available in different shapes – rounds, square, hexagonal, and flat bars. They are used for motor shafts, valves, fasteners and pump shafts.
Sheets are traditionally used in kitchen appliances like dishwashers, freezers and refrigerators and are available in various lengths and widths.
Steel plates are used in circuit boards and the Alloy 410 is perfect for the manufacturing of press plates.
