This book was not written with the intent to discuss psychology or human behaviour. It started with simple moments. A not-as-expected conversation. A co-worker who at first was distant but later became a trusted friend. A chance encounter that changes after a second or third meeting. In retrospect, Bhardwaj realized that those who stuck in his mind best were those he misjudged at the start.

"I realised that some of the strongest assumptions we make come from very little information," Bhardwaj says. “Sometimes we make up our minds about a person before we really know them, and then when we do, the whole picture is different.”
The book does not focus on theories or technical jargon, but rather on situations that are familiar. It deals with relationships at work, at play, in the family, and in the myriad of little moments when people make instinctive decisions. The author gives the example of the first impression, which is natural, but not necessarily accurate, as the first impression is formed by our own experiences rather than the person in front of us.

“There is no message that says don't trust yourself,” he says. "I think it's more about leaving a little room for the possibility that there is something we haven't seen yet."
