Joint presentation will show how embedded unit-level identity can connect physical products to GS1 identifiers and EPCIS events, strengthening DSCSA traceability, returns verification, 3PL handoffs, and exception handling
RxERP and p-Chip Corporation today announced that the companies will jointly present their combined Hardware-Backed Item Identity Solution at GS1 Connect 2026 in Las Vegas on June 10, 2026. The session, "Beyond the Barcode: The Physical-Digital Connection - Linking GS1 Identification to Products," will demonstrate how unit-level digital anchors can be bound to GS1 identifiers and EPCIS events to strengthen pharmaceutical traceability.
Serialization is now broadly adopted, and DSCSA compliance and EPCIS event exchange are operational across many trading-partner networks. Yet a trust gap remains: serialization establishes what a product claims to be, but a serialized label or barcode can be copied, separated, damaged, or misapplied, leaving the physical product not always reliably matched to its digital identity at the moments where traceability is most exposed.
The presentation is designed to close that gap without replacing existing standards. GS1 identifiers and EPCIS events supply the interoperable foundation; the RxERP/p-Chip contribution is to bind that digital identity to the physical product. A p-Chip digital anchor is a manufacturer-applied, cryptographically unique identifier permanently bonded to the product, origin-bound, GS1-native, designed to stay readable across the supply chain, and crypto-verified to confirm the item's physical presence. In the demonstrated workflow, the anchor is bound to the Serialized Global Trade Item Number (SGTIN) at commissioning and recorded with the EPCIS Commission event, then re-checked at each subsequent handoff.
The companies will show how this linkage supports four operational use cases: confirming at returns that a unit is the same physical item that shipped rather than a substitution; validating 3PL handoffs through anchor verification at custody transfer rather than a serial scan alone; resolving suspect product investigations through a rapid anchor readout; and clearing exceptions by reading the anchor to resolve ambiguity.
This presentation builds on the previously announced technology licensing agreement between RxERP and p-Chip to enable embedded unit-level digital identity for DSCSA compliance and end-to-end pharmaceutical traceability. Where that announcement established the commercial and compliance foundation, the GS1 Connect session moves the collaboration toward a practical, standards-aligned demonstration in real operating environments.
"Interoperability and identity continuity are essential to scalable pharmaceutical traceability," said Steve Madsen, Chief Executive Officer of RxERP. "At GS1 Connect, we are showing how GS1 identifiers and EPCIS events can be connected to real operational workflows in RxERP and strengthened with hardware-backed item identity from p-Chip."
"Serialization tells the industry what a product claims to be; hardware-backed identity helps verify what the physical product actually is," said Joe Wagner, CEO of p-Chip Corporation. "By pairing p-Chip digital anchors with RxERP workflows, the industry can move toward a more durable, continuous link between the physical item and its digital record."
RxERP and p-Chip invite manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, 3PLs, specialty pharmacies, and other supply chain stakeholders attending GS1 Connect to meet with the companies to discuss pilot lanes, integration programs, and commercial deployment, starting with one product line, one lane, and one 3PL partner, then expanding as verification becomes standard.
About RxERP
RxERP provides a pharmaceutical-first ERP platform that unifies DSCSA serialization, inventory, orders, reporting, and trading-partner workflows in a single serialized system of record, serving manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors, 3PLs, specialty pharmacies, and public-sector supply-chain programs. About p-Chip Corporation
p-Chip Corporation is a Chicago-based technology company pioneering a class of light-activated microtransponder tags for digital identity, traceability, and authentication of physical products across industrial value chains. The p-Chip microtransponder, a silicon chip about the size of a grain of salt, can be embedded into or attached onto products to assign a secure, cryptographically unique digital identity, helping organizations across healthcare, life sciences, and food verify product integrity and support chain-of-identity requirements.
