The numbers below are based on usage from 9 April to 8 July 2026 at Overchat AI, an all-in-one AI platform that gives access to the latest AI models from every major provider in a single place. The data covers ~1.68 million users and roughly 15 million AI interactions.
Most Used AI Models
Here are the most used AI models on Overchat AI across roughly 15M AI interactions:
1. GPT-5.6 — 83.4% of usage
2. Claude Opus 4.8 — 6.1%
3. Gemini 3.5 — 3.8%
4. Grok 4.5 — 2.4%
5. DeepSeek V4.2 — 1.9%
6. Kimi K2.7 — 1.2%
7. Everything else — 1.2%
Last quarter, Overchat AI reported that about ~81% of users choose the GPT model family, and the quarter before that — 66%. On a platform that makes it very easy to switch models, GPT models still win by a very large margin as the best general-purpose modelю Grok, DeepSeek and Kimi remain niche despite being very strong models for coding and creative writing.
Most Used Image Generation Models
GPT-Image-2 remains the most-used image model despite being the slower, pricier option — people prefer quality over speed when it comes to image generation. Here is the full breakdown of the most popular image models that people engage with on the platform:
GPT-Image-2 — 44.9% of image usage
Nano Banana Pro — 30.5%
Nano Banana 2 — 20.3%
Seedream 5 (Pro) — 2.0%
Everything else — 2.3%
When the output is an image someone will keep or share, users pick the model that looks best instead of deciding based on the price. People are also willing to wait significantly longer for the result. Interestingly, no fast model variants appeared among the top most used models at all; instead, the top was dominated by Pro or flagship models, despite faster alternatives having a genuine place (iteration, testing, bulk generation). Along those lines, Seedream 5 has started to naturally gain popularity.
Most Used Video Models
OpenAI shut down the Sora consumer app, so people are slowly but surely migrating away from this video generator and settling on new alternatives.
In Overchat AI’s last two reports, Sora 2 was the runaway leader — 80%+ and then ~64% of usage respectively. People are now increasingly using Seedance 2.0 instead. Here is the video breakdown for this quarter:
Seedance 2.0 — 57.9% of video usage
Kling v3 — 16.8%
Hailuo 2.3 — 12.6%
Veo 3.1 — 8.4%
Everything else — 4.3%
Seedance 2.0 took nearly 60% of video usage — a bigger share than any single non-Sora model has ever held on the platform. Kling v3 and Hailuo 2.3 are also popular, and people are still using Veo 3.1, despite it being outdated. The rest of the video usage is split across a long tail of other models — interestingly, the Grok Imagine family sits in that “everything else” bucket and stays underused despite offering some of the best video quality.
How People Use AI
Because Overchat AI gives one account access to text, image and video models plus over 150 purpose-built tools, the company can look at the anonymized, aggregate behavior of the whole user base and see how many models one person uses, how many messages they send to AI on average in chats, and whether they stick to text models in a single session or mix different media workflows.
Roughly 4 out of 5 people use more than one model — and nearly half use three or more.

In Overchat AI, 76% of all this activity happens on mobile, so people are using their phones for AI far more often than their laptops, despite Overchat AI offering many productivity tools.
